Art Craft & Design – Junior Cycle
In Art, Craft, Design, students will learn to create 2D and 3D artworks using a variety of tools, equipment and materials. In St. Dominic’s we teach many specialism’s including printmaking and ceramics. Our department has a large kiln which allows students to produce clay objects that can be then fired and glazed.
Students also engage with drawing and painting, batik, graphic design, photography and mask making. They will also gain an understanding and appreciation art, craft and design in both contemporary and historical contexts.
The study of Art gives students the opportunity to exercise and develop their creativity and problem-solving abilities. It builds self-confidence and encourages personal expression. Students learn the value in self-discipline and in working to achieve their individual goals. In third year, students will do a school-based project based on a chosen list of themes. The project is worth 75% and students then sit a drawing exam in May of a life drawing and an object which is worth 25%.
