Our Transition Year Students attended the 5th Cycle Against Suicide Student Leaders Congress in the 3Arena in Dublin on Thursday January 18th, 2018. This is the leading Student Mental Health Conference in Europe and lived up to the organisers promises to be an amazing event. It promoted positive mental health and provided help-seeking advice for young people in a fun and inclusive manner.
The theme for the congress this year was #EmpowerYourVoice.
The day was very much a student-led event and a portion of the day involved students discussing their projects. The projects were depicted in paintings, poems or songs. throughout the congress the Cycle Against Suicide Team continued to spread the message tirelessly that “It’s OK not to feel OK; and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help“.
The line up of speakers where from the USA and Ireland: Dr. Harry Barry, Dr. Eddie Murphy & Dr. Niall Muldoon to name but a few, as well as sports, TV & music personalities, Snapchat and Instagram influencers, and students and teachers all participating.
A huge range of other Mental Health Organisations were exhibited on the day. The students left the Congress with tools that will support them for many years to come.
Out TY students , their SNAs and Tutors performed their version of ‘Personal by the Vamps’ which captured this years congress theme #EmpowerYourVoice. – this collaboration personalised by TY student Niamh Redmond included sign language by both staff and students.
