On Friday 6th March, St Dominic’s TY students were guests of Google at International Women’s Day in the iconic auditorium of the Convention Centre. Over breakfast, they had the opportunity to browse the extensive International Women’s Day Showcase and mingle with Female Founders and enjoy interactive demos such as ‘Oculus Rift’ and an Accenture Drone.

The panel of female leaders which included Anne O’Leary CEO Vodafone Ireland, Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald, Fionnuala Meehan, Google encouraged students and all attendees to listen, learn and lead through the celebration of their successes and achievements. Natasha Fennell Director and Co-Founder of Stillwater Communications shared her thoughts on the Art of Confidence and challenged us ‘To live the life you want not should’

The students were challenged to explore the need for big thinking, debate the necessity to make bold moves and discuss the reality that being brave and getting out of their comfort zone is often need to reach our true potential.

Shannon Ryan Transition Year Student stated ‘that the Breakfast Conference really motivated and inspired her to be the best that she can be in the future’

Principal Mary Daly stated that ‘we really need to increase the number of females entering the field of IT, Technology, Engineering, Science and Computer Science and that all young people need to ‘think big’ to change their life choices’
