BRENT POPE Rugby Analyst with RTE officially opened our Multi Sensory Relaxation Room and raised our Amber Flag (Suicide Aware) on Wednesday 16th March. He was joined with representatives from The Dominican Sisters, Le Cheile Catholic Schools Trust, parents, students, staff, members of the local community, See Change and CA Suicide
The multi sensory room was the dream of our Health Promoting Schools Team ( a partnership of students, staff, parents). They developed the room as part of our action plan to promote Positive Mental Health and student wellbeing.
What is a multi-sensory room?
A multi- sensory room is an environment designed to give users the opportunity of complete relaxation and access to sensory stimulation. The room is a dedicated space for the leisure and relaxation of all our school community.It provides stimulation of the human senses, promotes intellectual activity and provides a space of escapism, control and choice for users. This is beneficial in the area of positive mental health and wellbeing.
At St Dominic’s we believe that the promotion of positive mental health and suicide awareness is a vital component in our educational system and a key issue to be tackled and save lives.
