Since early June, St Dominic’s students have been attending many Summer Colleges to enhance their language skills and immerse themselves in the culture, thanks to the Dominican Sisters Ministry Fund and DPS Engineering
Lauren Dorrington from 2nd Year who attended a French Language Residential College in Waterford stated ‘I really enjoyed the experience of having to talk French all the time. This course will really assist me in preparation for my French Oral for the Junior cert next year’
Hollie Baker and Megan Hanney attended a 2 week Gael Linn intensive Gaeilge Course for 2 weeks in June and stated ’ The classes were really intensive and it has given us a great start to Higher Level Gaeilge in September. We have developed a great love for the language since 1st Year and 50% of our year group achieved high grades in Higher Level Gaeilge in the Junior Cert
Ms Daly, an Irish teacher in St Dominic’s facilitated a week long Intensive Gaeilge Course for 5th Year students in preparation for their Leaving Cert oral next year.
At the moment, students from 1st and 2nd Year are attending Coláiste Chill Chártha in Donegal, Coláiste Chiaráin and Coláiste Lurgáin in Galway.
Other students who have just returned from a Sailing Adventure with Ballyfermot Youth Service will be participating in Adventure Sports through Gaeilge in Coláiste Acla, Co Mayo in late July for 2 weeks!!
