St. Dominic’s 2nd year students won 1st place in Ireland in another National Literacy Competition for the second year in a row!!! They entered a JCSP National Digital Literacy Competition entitled ‘ My Place My Community‘. All students created short digital videos in all subject areas to capture and illustrate their understanding of their community.
To celebrate their success, they have been attending and participating in interactive ‘Video Mashing’ workshops in the Digital Hub for three days his week. Certainly, success is in the veins of these students, as they also scooped 1st place in a National Literacy Competition entitled ‘I Love Reading’ last year!! They then created a DVD which is now been used as exemplary material in schools across Ireland. Chloe Powell a student in 2nd year stated that ‘they have really enjoyed the competitions and more importantly their literacy skills are improving in a fun way!!!
Mary Daly Principal stated that ‘this phenomenal success is a testimony to the positive attitude that all staff and students are displaying by becoming more creative in incorporating literacy into all subjects’ (The Echo 6/3/2014)
