Ecuador 2013

St. Dominic’s Student wins EIL  International Travel Award to Ecuador

During the summer, I spent 4 amazing weeks in Ecuador, South America. It truly was ‘a journey to remember’ and one I will never forget. During the 4 weeks, I spent 1 week in Quito the Capital of Ecuador. In Quito I had one to one Spanish lessons, I took a trip to the Equator, I made American friends who were teaching English, and at night when I had free time I toured the city with them. I would like to teach English abroad as well.  My home stay was in Riobamba, a small Andean town. My host Family were lovely! I was fortunate enough to have a sister and brother my age. At night times and weekends it was great to just hang out with them and go out to their friends. I volunteered in a nursery centre, the centre was very poor, it made me realise how lucky we are here in Ireland.  I visited many places eg  Rio-Negro, Banos, Salinas, Chimborazo, full day excursion to Alausi and Nariz del Diablo, Otavalo, and to the incredible Amazon Rainforest.  No words or pictures can ever give the trip the justice it deserves. If I tried to tell you everything that happened or try and explain my experience I would be writing for days! I would recommend anyone to apply for a Travel Award in 2014 with EIL Ireland.
