Recently, our Amnesty International School’s Team attended the Amnesty International School’s Conference in St Andrew’s Resource Centre , Pearse St, Dublin. We were one of eight schools that participated.
Amnesty have recently rejuvenated their Youth Forum and we have recently become members. The group decided that it would be a positive step to attend the conference to gain more knowledge re Amnesty and their work. Ayla, Rania, Charlotte, Aoife, Fayokemi, Lauren, Emily and myself attended.
The Conference was excellent. There was a discussion group where activists spoke about the refugee problem. They explained about refugees and asylum seekers and the problems they face when they arrive in Ireland we found the workshop very interesting.
There was also a talk from Ibrahim Halawa, an Irish man who was wrongly imprisoned in Egypt for four years, for standing up for Human Rights. His story was very touching and inspiring. People like Ibrahim give hope to the rest of us. We spent the afternoon learning about each other and sharing our stories of bravery and playing different games. It was an incredible day.
